Classrooms operate on the principle of freedom within limits, respect for each other, and respect for the environment.  Each classroom is largely self-contained.  There is a well-equipped library.  Playgrounds and play equipment are available on the school grounds. All classes have daily outdoor physical activities, weather permitting.

Each classroom at Bayside Montessori is well equipped with a full complement of Montessori materials, as well as a variety of other educational equipment.  Plants and animals are an integral part of the classroom and are cared for by the children.

The classrooms are set up according to Dr. Montessori’s concept of multi-age groupings.  The three-year age span in each class provides a family-like community of children and adults who work together building a heritage of mutual enrichment. Older children share what they have learned with the younger, while the younger children are inspired by the older.

Because this peer grouping is intrinsic to Montessori, there is often more conversation, providing more language experience and development of social skills in the Montessori than in a traditional classroom.
